There are various voyageur statues scattered across northern Minnesota. This one is located in Cloquet on an island in the St. Louis River. The plaque on it's base calls it "A Cloquet Bicentennial Project". It was dedicated on July 5th, 1976 by Senator Hubert H. Humphrey and Representative Jim Oberstar. It's made of fiberglass and is still in pretty good shape. Up close you can definitely see some wear and tear and some vandalism, but until you get pretty close to it it looks really good. It also didn't hurt that the sun was hitting it at a great angle for viewing.

I just found your blog while looking up the world's largest dragonfly. I have a lame house chicken named Lulu that travels with me. I stop and take pics of her with tourist attractions. We were recently at Wabamun, Alberta and snapped pics of their dragonfly which they claim as the largest in Canada. So Google took me to you. Lulu and I have been in the three western provinces so far. I'd love to go to the USA but I suspect Lulu wouldn't be welcome. I really can't believe it's been almost 2 years since I've posted anything. I habe to find the time to fix that.
I was at the dedication of the Cloquet Voyageur when I was seven years old. It used to be located in a different part of town. I never understood why HHH was there, but I have always been impressed that he shook my hand. Now I understand from your post that it was a Centennial celebration. My relatives neglected to tell me that, or maybe I wasn't listening. Thanks for solving a life-long mystery!
